Health Careers Education
The Health Careers Education division provides leadership to health careers education teachers across the state. HOSA Future Health Professionals is the Student organization.
Goals
Instructors who hold a Baccalaureate degree AND possess a valid license as a Registered Nurse with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing are eligible to receive a standard teaching credential as a School Nurse. In order to obtain this credential, the instructor must apply online at the State Department of Education website, send original transcripts, a copy of their nursing license (or verification page from Board of Nursing website). Note- any teacher certification will require a background check. SDE's teacher certification website contains information on how to schedule this check at a location near you. A background check for employment will NOT work for teacher certification. This background check is valid for 5 years.
Increase access to health careers, programs and services.
Develop and implement new health careers products, programs and services.
Communicate the role of the health career education system in securing Oklahoma’s economic future.
Utilize relationships with partners to create new opportunities in Health Careers Education.
Identify possible new initiatives through legislative efforts.
Enhance performance and quality within health career programs through supportive in-service activities, visits, and workshops.
