Guidance for AI in Oklahoma K-12 Schools

The Oklahoma State Department of Education is excited to announce the release of the revised Guidance and Considerations for Using Artificial Intelligence in Oklahoma K–12 Schools (Version 2.0).

This comprehensive update reflects the rapidly evolving landscape of AI in education and provides clear, practical guidance for school leaders, educators, and technology teams across the state. The revised document offers enhanced frameworks for implementation, deeper support for responsible and equitable use, and updated tools to help schools align AI use with educational integrity, safety, and innovation.

The OSDE will provide virtual professional learning opportunities for educators and administrators to learn more about AI in education. This document is currently undergoing revision. 

Model AI Use Policy for Districts

The Model AI Use Policy below provides Oklahoma school districts with a clear framework for integrating artificial intelligence tools responsibly and effectively. It balances innovation with safeguards for student privacy, academic integrity, and equitable access, while aligning with FERPA, COPPA, state cybersecurity standards, and OSDE guidance. The included templates, rubrics, and communication resources are designed to be adapted locally, helping districts implement AI in ways that are safe, transparent, and student-centered.

Online Office Hours:

Join the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s monthly AI learning series designed to support educators, administrators, and IT leaders as they explore the responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence in schools. Each month, we offer three targeted sessions: AI Office Hours (open Q&A and support for all educators), AI for Admin (leadership-focused strategies and implementation guidance), and the AI for IT Collaborative (tech-specific discussions for IT staff). These sessions provide ongoing opportunities to ask questions, share ideas, and stay current with AI tools, policies, and best practices in education.

Family Guides

To help you support your child in the classroom, the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) has produced Oklahoma Family Guides.
