Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science
The 2023 Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science (OAS-CS) were developed by a committee composed of educators representing K-12 public schools, Career Tech, higher education, and education non-profict organizations. Feedback was provided in two public comment periods and included K-12 educators, higher education, and education non-profit organizations.
The OAS-CS are designed to prepare all Oklahoma students for success in a world increasingly shaped by technology. The standards cover key topics, including computational thinking, programming, algorithms, data structures, and the ethical and social implications of computing.

Emerging Technologies & Artificial Intelligence Competencies
Competencies provide a pathway for teachers who are looking to guide their students to the next level. The Student Competencies for Emerging Technologies & Artificial Intelligence (AI) articulate what Oklahoma students should know and be able to do when engaging with modern intelligent technologies, from kindergarten through grade 12.
These competencies are intended to complement, not replace, the 2023 Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science (OAS-CS) by providing districts and teachers with clear, grade‑level learning targets that reflect current national trends in computer science education. Because the Oklahoma State Department of Education has not yet adopted additional AI standards legislatively, these competencies serve as a voluntary framework that districts may integrate into existing computer science (CS) courses or related STEM subjects.
If you have any questions about the competencies, please email Jeremy Maker Project Director of Computer Science, at Jeremy.Maker@sde.ok.gov.

Pre-K Guidance
This document extends the 2023 Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science (OAS‑CS) by providing developmentally appropriate guidance for pre‑kindergarten (PK). Each standard is paired with the following:
- A Computer Science Practice (mirroring the K–12 OAS-CS)
- A concise Unplugged Idea so teachers can implement the concept without devices
- A computational thinking connection to clarify the learning goal
