In addition to the salary, eligible full-time employees receive....

A Benefit Allowance to Pay for Health Insurance

In addition to their salary in 2024, OBN employees receive from $725.58 per month  (employee coverage only) to $1,160.66 per month (employee, spouse and children) provided by the agency to pay for health insurance. Insurance offerings include health, dental, vision and life insurance. The employee keeps any remaining benefit allowance not spent on premiums. There are a variety of supplemental insurance coverages also available through a Voluntary Payroll Deduction program.

Even those employees eligible to opt out of purchasing health insurance through OBN receive $150.00 per month in addition to their salary.

Annual Leave, Sick Leave and Paid Holidays

Employees accrue 15 days of annual leave per year in the first five years of service as a state employee; employees with 5-10 years of service accrue 18 days per year; employees with 10-20 years of service accrue 20 days per year; and those working for the state for 20+ years accrue 25 days per year.

Employees accrue 15 days of sick leave per year.

The state of Oklahoma normally observes 11 holidays per year.

Retirement

The Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) administers retirement plans for several different types of Oklahoma state and local government employees. The primary plan is a defined benefit retirement plan for employees entering state of Oklahoma service prior to November 1, 2015.  A defined benefit plan promises its members a lifetime retirement benefit when the member meets certain eligibility requirements.

Pathfinder is the mandatory defined contribution plan for eligible state employees who first become employed by a participating employer on or after November 1, 2015, and have no prior participation in OPERS before that date. Under this plan, participants choose a contribution rate which is matched by OBN up to 7%, and participants have the freedom to select and change their investments. You can receive another 1% employer-matching contribution to your 401(a) Plan when you contribute 2.5% or more to your voluntary 457(b) Plan. That’s a total 14% contribution to your Pathfinder retirement accounts.

A $25.00 Per Month Match Savings Incentive Plan (SoonerSave)

OPERS administers the voluntary SoonerSave defined contribution plan in which certain state of Oklahoma employees are eligible to participate. Qualifying employees can save additional money for retirement and reduce the amount of current state and federal income tax paid each year by contributing and investing pre-tax dollars into the 457 Deferred Compensation Plan SoonerSave. Even better, the state of Oklahoma provides an employer match of $25 per month through the 401(a) Savings Incentive Plan. Contributions and any earnings in both plans grow tax-deferred until money is withdrawn.
