Purpose

To learn about the planned highway work, share your thoughts, and get answers about the I-40 bridge and roadway improvements. This will be a come-and-go type meeting with no presentation. Project team members will be on hand to answer questions.

Description

ODOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are planning to improve I-40 in Oklahoma City. The MacArthur Blvd. and Meridian Ave. bridges will be replaced, and lanes will be added.

The project covers the area of I-40 from about one-half mile west of MacArthur Blvd. to about one-half mile east of Meridian Ave. These changes are needed to make the highway safer and help traffic flow more smoothly. Right now, I-40 can’t handle the high volume of traffic it gets every day. The current traffic volume is about 110,000 vehicles per day and is expected to increase.

To correct these issues, ODOT proposes the following improvements:

• Adding one driving lane in each direction of I-40

• Adding one merging lane between the on- and off-ramps on I-40

• Rebuilding the I-40 bridges and ramps at MacArthur Blvd. and at Meridian Ave. to a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) type design

• Adding turn lanes to the ramps approaching MacArthur Blvd. and Meridian Ave.

• Adding turn lanes along both MacArthur Blvd. and Meridian Ave.

I-40 will stay open during construction, and ODOT will keep access to homes and businesses on MacArthur Blvd. and Meridian Ave.
