Parents and Families
School-Based Family Specialists (SBFS) are dedicated to supporting the children and families served by partnered schools, as well as the schools’ teachers and administrators. An SBFS is an Oklahoma Human Services employee hired through a partnership with the school district.
The SBFS interacts with students, parents, school personnel, and community agencies and is part of the school's team. Local SBFSs can connect students and their families to local and state resources that can offer help and hope. These could include Oklahoma Human Services services like TANF, SNAP, medical, dental and vision assistance, as well as services provided by other state agencies or within the community like housing and utility assistance, health and parent education, counseling services, and/or substance abuse services. Your SBFS may help your student stay on track educationally while guiding your student through out-of-classroom obstacles that would affect their success in the classroom. The SBFS makes a significant impact on the well-being of their communities, improving outcomes and reducing risk factors for the students and families they serve.
