Office of Inspector General

What We Do

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) consists of five distinct units that play a vital role in protecting the integrity of public assistance programs administered by Oklahoma Human Services. Each unit works to prevent and detect waste, fraud and abuse while enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of agency operations. Investigations are carried out by commissioned law enforcement officers who handle criminal fraud and administrative violations involving Oklahoma Human Services programs. These agents are authorized to serve warrants, subpoenas and other court orders in both judicial and administrative proceedings related to the Agency.

The Administrative Review Unit conducts child care audits to ensure compliance with state and federal law, focusing on violations involving subsidized child care payments, while also overseeing the national PARIS program to help detect and deter improper payments across multiple benefit programs. The Administrative Review Unit is also responsible for completing federally mandated quality control reviews to ensure the integrity of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program and Medicaid programs within the Department.

Internal Audit ensures programs operate with transparency and compliance through financial reviews, while Information Security protects agency data by investigating breaches, lost devices, and misuse of technology.

Finally, the Office of Background Investigations (OBI) processes thousands of fingerprint-based background checks each year to protect Oklahomans and uphold safety standards. These checks cover licensed childcare providers, foster and adoptive families, trial reunifications, guardianships, and all Oklahoma Human Services employees, ensuring children are placed in safe and nurturing environments.

Together, these five units form a comprehensive oversight framework that safeguards resources, promotes accountability, and strengthens public trust in Oklahoma Human Services.
