Oklahoma Tax Commission Announces Tax Relief for Disaster-Affected Counties

On June 9, 2025, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued Notice OK-2025-02, extending federal tax filing and payment deadlines to November 3, 2025, for individuals and businesses in Cleveland, Creek, Lincoln, Oklahoma, Pawnee, and Payne counties affected by recent wildfires and straight-line winds.

In alignment with the IRS, the Oklahoma Tax Commission (OTC) has adopted similar relief by postponing:

  • Tax Year 2024 income tax returns and payments
  • Tax Year 2025 estimated income tax payments

Affected taxpayers will not incur interest or penalties on 2024 income taxes originally due April 15, 2025, or 2025 estimated payments due April 15, June 16, and September 15, provided all required returns are filed and any tax due is remitted by the extended November 3, 2025, deadline.

Notification to Taxpayers

In most cases, the OTC will automatically identify impacted taxpayers by their address in the disaster areas, notify them, and apply the relief. The notice will state that they may qualify for relief for the following reasons:

  • You received a billing notice showing tax due, along with late payment and interest for tax year 2024. Penalty and interest are now no longer due from April 15, 2025 through November 3, 2025. Unless you have already done so, pay any tax due by November 3, 2025 to avoid charges for late payment penalty and interest.
  • You received a billing notice stating you owe late penalty and interest for tax year 2024. Penalty and interest are now no longer due.
  • You are receiving a refund because you previously paid late penalty and interest upon a payment made after April 15, 2025. These amounts are now being refunded to you via check.
