Administrative Letter 19-12

June 12, 2019

Dear Homemaker Provider,

On May 29, 2019 Administrative Letter 19-04 was sent to every Homemaker provider about the need to obtain a Respite contract. We retracted the letter on May 31, 2019 stating that existing authorizations for Homemaker Respite, HIPAA code S5150, can continue to be claimed for services provided and DDS would provide further guidance. This is the new instruction.

We have a coding problem that requires correction; however, we want to make sure providers have adequate time to obtain the appropriate contract. If you do not have an active Respite contract and you would like to continue to provide Homemaker Respite services, you must obtain a Respite contract. Effective November 1, 2020 all providers who bill S5150 (Homemaker Respite) will be required to have a Respite contract.

Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS) staff will end date existing authorizations for S5150 effective November 1, 2020 and will issue a new authorization for the balance of the service recipient’s plan of care year, if you have an active Respite contract. If you do not have an active DDS Respite contract at that time, DDS will have no mechanism for authorizing you to claim for any Homemaker Respite (S5150) services you provide.

Homemaker Respite providers are encouraged to obtain a Respite contract as soon as possible. Please contact your local DDS Area office and ask to speak with the Contracts and Claims staff to request a Respite waiver contract. If you have questions about billing or the transfer of units, please feel free to contact the DDS Provider Support Center at 1-800-349-9173 or by email at ddsd.provider.support@okdhs.org.

Thank you,
