Dear Provider,

In November, Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS) conducted a survey of residential and vocational providers to determine their current level of satisfaction with available health related trainings.  Of the 164 Program Coordinators who responded –

  • 84% stated they prefer live or in-person training.
  • 86% stated health related training provided through live trainings and the College of Direct Support (CDS) is adequate for staff to safely perform their job duties.
  • 91% stated training provided by licensed professionals was adequate to meet the training needs of their staff.

DDS will continue to update live and online CDS trainings in an effort to meet the needs of provider agencies.  Live health related training is currently provided through such DDS approved classes as Medication Administration Technician (MAT), Developmental Disabilities Medication Administration Technician (DDMAT), Health Day 1 and 2, CPR, First Aid and in-house individual specific trainings provided by licensed professionals and their subsequent trainers.

Providers who participate in the College of Direct Support are encouraged to develop their own online trainings beyond the courses required by policy.  Contact Elsevier Customer Support at 1-866-344-2088, if development assistance is needed.

DDS is dedicated to providing resources and information to provider agencies in order to promote the health and safety of the individuals served and to develop cost effective training. Please see the attached list of additional health related resources and responses to health related training questions, which were a result of the survey.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Marie Moore, Interim Director
