US-81/I-40 Business/SH-66 bridge lanes shift at S.E. 22nd St. in El Reno to detour through 2021

Monday, November 16, 2020

Northbound and southbound US-81/I-40 Business/SH-66 traffic is shifted between S.E. 22nd St. and Elm St. in El Reno to a detour just to the east of the bridge through summer 2021 as part of an ongoing bridge replacement project. The detour will be one lane in each direction and wide loads will be restricted to no more than 12-feet in width.

Motorists are advised to use extra caution and vigilance on the construction detour, especially at the temporary railroad crossing near Elm St., which will have lights and signs to warn drivers. Additionally, motorists should pay close attention to construction traffic moving in and out of the work zone and flaggers may be on site at varying times. Work generally will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, but some night and weekend lane closures may occur as needed.

This $10 million project was awarded by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission in November 2019 to Sherwood Construction Co. Inc. of Tulsa and is expected to complete by summer 2021, weather permitting.
