The Oklahoma Warmline began as a resource for Oklahoma child care providers but has recently expanded its services to provide free telephone consultation to parents, too!

The Warmline is answered Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Messages left after hours will be responded to as soon as a consultant is available. You can also reach the Warmline with questions at warmline@health.ok.gov.

How can the Warmline help?

A multidisciplinary team of consultants (behavioral health, child development, and a nurse) offer consultation and education to people who call.

For Parents

Consultants can help:

Clarify a problem
Provide information, included printed materials, if available
Help generate ideas and solutions
Offer guidance on developmentally appropriate practices
Provide referrals to meet individual needs and requests
Direct parents to relevant resources to assist with a concern

What the Warmline is not able to do

Consultants for the Oklahoma Warmline do not diagnose over the phone, make recommendations around treatment of illness, or do any sort of triage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Place children in small groups. Ratios are not only important for children's safety, but also their development.
Assign children to one primary caregiver. Stable, consistent relationships are critical for healthy brain development.
Avoid high staff turnover. Being a supportive program director and providing adequate training opportunities can help reduce staff turnover, which also reduces children's anxiety about frequent caregiver changes.
Encourage parent participation in child care activities. Communication and consistency between home and child care are very important when helping a child adjust and develop.
